SuperWrap II Composite Pipe Repair
Structural pipe repair for leaking, corroded, and damaged pipelines — without welding, without shutdown, and without the risk of hot work.
What Is SuperWrap II?
SuperWrap II is an ISO 24817-certified composite repair system that restores structural integrity to damaged pipes without welding or hot work. The system uses high-strength fiber reinforcement saturated with Belzona epoxy to create a permanent, structural repair.
Unlike clamps or temporary patches, SuperWrap II is engineered to restore the original design pressure rating of the pipe. The system is certified to ISO 24817 and ASME PCC-2 standards for composite repair of pressurized equipment. In some circumstances, SuperWrap II can also be installed without formal engineering design calculations — contact us to discuss your specific application.
SuperWrap II repairs can be applied while the system remains in service — no draining, no shutdown, no production loss. The cold-applied system eliminates hot work permits and the fire risks associated with welding on or near pipelines.
Signs Your Pipe Needs Repair
Pipe damage progresses from minor corrosion to catastrophic failure. Catching problems early saves money and prevents unplanned shutdowns:
External Corrosion
Visible rust, pitting, or wall thinning on pipe exterior — especially at supports, under insulation, or in splash zones
Weeping or Leaking
Moisture, staining, or active leaks indicating through-wall damage that will only get worse
Wall Thickness Loss
UT readings showing wall loss approaching minimum allowable — near-wall condition requiring reinforcement
Mechanical Damage
Dents, gouges, or impact damage that compromise pipe integrity
Failed Previous Repairs
Clamps, wraps, or patches that are leaking or no longer providing adequate reinforcement
Scheduled for Replacement
Pipes flagged for replacement that need to stay in service until the next turnaround
The Belzona Solution
SuperWrap II is a complete composite repair system — not just a wrap. The system includes surface preparation materials, filler compounds for defect repair, and high-strength reinforcement for structural restoration.
For leaking pipes: The system seals active leaks and restores structural integrity in a single application. Through-wall defects are filled and reinforced to return the pipe to full design pressure.
For near-wall corrosion: SuperWrap II reinforces thinned pipe walls before they fail, extending service life and avoiding emergency repairs or unplanned shutdowns.
All components are cold-applied. No welding. No hot work permits. No fire watch. Repairs can be made while the system remains in service at full operating pressure.
Why SuperWrap II?
- +ISO 24817 certified — engineered composite repair
- +No hot work — eliminates fire risk
- +No shutdown required — repair while in service
- +Structural repair — restores design pressure
- +Seals leaks — through-wall and near-wall
- +20+ year service life — permanent repair
The Repair Process
A typical SuperWrap II repair takes 4-8 hours plus overnight cure. The system can be applied while the pipe remains in service:
Surface Preparation
Blast or grind pipe surface to clean metal. Remove corrosion, scale, and contamination from repair area plus overlap zone.
Fill Defects
Fill pits, corrosion damage, and through-wall defects with Belzona epoxy filler to restore pipe profile and seal leaks.
Apply Composite Wrap
Saturate reinforcement sheets with Belzona resin and wrap pipe per ISO 24817 design calculations. Layer count based on pressure and wall loss.
Cure and Return to Service
Allow cure at ambient temperature. Full cure in 24 hours at 68°F. Pipe remains in service throughout the repair process.
Each SuperWrap II repair is engineered based on pipe diameter, wall thickness, operating pressure, and defect size. In some cases, repairs can be installed without formal engineering calculations. Call (425) 610-4902 to discuss your pipe repair.

Case Study
Emergency Ductile Iron Pipe Repair — Seattle Utility
A Seattle-area utility discovered leaking ductile iron pipes running beneath Lake Washington. Taking the line offline for a traditional repair would have disrupted service to thousands of customers. The utility needed an emergency solution that could seal the leaks and restore structural integrity without interrupting service.
Belzona Technology Northwest Technical Consultant Scott Taylor provided a leak stop and SuperWrap II composite repair solution. The entire repair was completed in three days with zero interruption of service — no shutdown, no hot work, no impact to customers.

Industries Using SuperWrap II
Marine
Ballast pipes, sea water lines, deck drains, and shipboard piping systems repaired without hot work permits.
Pulp and Paper
Process piping, chemical lines, and steam systems repaired during production without mill shutdown.
Food and Beverage
Utility piping, ammonia lines, and process systems repaired without production interruption.
Power Generation
Cooling water pipes, service water systems, and plant piping repaired during operation.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can SuperWrap II repair a leaking pipe?
Yes. SuperWrap II is designed for both through-wall (leaking) and near-wall (reinforcement) repairs. The system seals active leaks and restores structural integrity in a single application. For active leaks, the defect is first sealed with Belzona filler before the composite wrap is applied.
Does the pipe need to be shut down for repair?
No. SuperWrap II can be applied while the pipe remains in service at full operating pressure and temperature. The cold-applied system requires no hot work, no draining, and no shutdown. This is one of the major advantages over welded repairs.
What pressures and temperatures can SuperWrap II handle?
SuperWrap II is designed per ISO 24817 to restore original design pressure ratings. Temperature limits depend on the grade selected — from 140°F for winter grade up to 302°F for high-temperature grade. Belzona 1984 can even be applied to damp, wet, or underwater surfaces. Contact us with your specific operating conditions.
How long does a SuperWrap II repair last?
SuperWrap II is a permanent repair with a design life of 20+ years. Many repairs installed in the 1990s are still in service today. The composite system does not corrode and provides ongoing protection to the underlying pipe.
Does every repair require engineering calculations?
Not always. While ISO 24817 provides the framework for engineered repairs, some applications can be completed without formal design calculations. Contact us to discuss your specific situation — we will help you determine the right approach for your pipe repair.
